About the project: "Mothered Nature," a short drama about two neighbors battling for the title of “Brimsby’s Largest Watermelon,” one of whom nurtures their baby plant to the point it comes to life, while the other loses sight of their real-life maternal responsibilities. It explores how motherhood is more than the ability to conceive, but about the love and attention one contributes to their seed. Rate: Volunteer (Non-Union); meals and a copy of the film provided. Additional info: Tone: Whimsical, Lighthearted, Off-Beat Humor. Intended for Festival Submission. Non-Union. Type: Student Short Film. Genre: Comedy/Drama. Shooting Locations: Grimsby, ON. Shooting Dates: October 17–19, 2025, with one in-person rehearsal expected a week prior to shooting at Humber Polytechnic North Campus. Supporting. Judy’s daughter is one of the most imaginative little girls. Her brain is filled with colour, but is constantly muted by her mother’s expectations. Wants nothing more than to play, dance, and laugh, often finding sneaky ways to do so. Lila wants to make her mother proud, but the goals she’s given are often unachievable, leaving her feeling like a failure most of the time. She buries this feeling and finds hope within other outlets, such as her friendship with her neighbour, Dorothy.
