About the project: "Stranger to the Yoke" is a gripping historical short film based on a true story, set in 1857 Texas. It follows the harrowing journey of Alpheus, the enslaved Matriarch, and Mary, a young white girl kidnapped and sold into slavery under the false identity of a Black child. As her secret threatens to unravel the fragile threads of an enslaved community, lead by Alpheus, the story explores identity, survival, and the soul-deep resilience of those bound but not broken by chains.
