About the project: Neil Simon’s memory play takes audience members into Yonkers, NY in 1942 and follows young brothers, Jay and Arty Kurnitz, as they navigate the eccentricities of their dysfunctional family. From the stern but loving Grandma Kurnitz to the unconventional Aunt Bella to the mysterious Uncle Louie who is being chased by the mob, each character brings a unique flavor to this heartwarming story. The Tony Award-winning play weaves a tale of family bonds, tough love, and the resilience that emerges from life's challenges. As the characters navigate loss, love, and self-discovery, the play effortlessly blends dramatic and comedic elements. Additional info: Performance Dates: Jan. 31 - Feb. 9 Will start in December. Most rehearsals begin at 6:00 PM on weeknights and during the day on weekends. You’ll have the chance to fill out a conflict calendar at the auditions, so be sure to bring your schedule with you. Audition Instructions: Acting auditions will consist of reading directly from scenes in the script. Prepared monologues are NOT required. If you are unable to audition at the designated times, a one-on-one time can be arranged with the director. Callbacks will be scheduled and communicated at the audition. The younger of two teenage brothers who are left with their forbidding Grandma. Arty is honest and direct; in spite of being afraid of Grandma, he tells it like it is. Like his brother he is quick witted.
