About the project: How I Learned to Drive is a wildly funny yet devastating story of survival as seen through the lens of a troubling relationship between a young girl and an older man. Set against the backdrop of suburban America, Vogel paints a searing examination of the power dynamics involving abuse and the trauma that shapes the realities and self-worth in victims; but most of all, How I Learned to Drive is a tale of of resilience and healing, opening up important conversations about understanding abuse and coping with it. How I Learned to Drive premiered at the Vineyard Theatre in New York City on January 27, 1997. Additional info: Auditionees will be provided sides to read from the script. Invited callbacks will occur during the audition. *Due to the subject matter, it is advised all actor's familiarize themselves with the play. Rehearsals begin December 9th with a break between December 20th - January 1st and will generally take place on weeknights from 7-10pm and occasional weekends. PERFORMANCE DATES January 24th - February 16th Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm; Sundays at 2 pm Additional performances on Thursday, February 6th at 8 pm and Saturday, February 15th at 2 pm.
