The Kellers' strong-willed and rebellious daughter, Sophie struggles with bullying at school and has a close connection to the family dog, Vega. Her relationship with her parents and brother is tense, especially as her father’s behavior becomes more erratic.
A middle schooler and Sophie’s classmate. Ryan is athletic, popular, and mostly uninvolved in Sophie’s personal problems, representing her connection to the outside world at school.
Sophie’s school bully, Jenny is mean-spirited but occasionally shows signs of wanting to reconcile with Sophie. Her intentions remain ambiguous throughout the story.
