Audition for "The King and I". Looking to cast kids and teenagers. Please see the details below. About the project: The King and I is the fifth musical by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and dramatist & lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. It is based on Margaret Landon’s novel, Anna and the King of Siam, which in turn is derived from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, governess to the children of King Monkut of Siam in the early 1860’s. Additional info: Vocal Auditions—Children Please sing a song of your choice which will reflect the range of the character for which you are auditioning. A pianist will be provided. Please ensure your music is clearly marked with cuts and repeats and bring sheet music in a display folder or taped for ease of use by the pianist. Do not staple or provide music unbound or printed on double sides. Dancing/Movement Audition Choreographer – Justin “Judd” Gibbs of Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Met, and Dayton Ballet fame may be on site for movement auditions. Please be prepared if necessary. On the Day Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition to fill out the paperwork, Please be prepared to list any and ALL conflicts between May 27 and the performance dates of July 19-21. Voice: Boy Alto Dance: Mover Description:Louis is Anna’s son. He is smart and inquisitive. He is very close and protective to his mother, with whom he has a very strong relationship.
Voice: Boy Alto Dance: Mover Description: Prince Chulalongkorn is the King’s eldest son and heir to the throne. He has been groomed to be king since birth. He is supremely confident in himself, even a bit arrogant and stubborn.
Vocal: Soprano Dance: Dancer/mover Description: Tuptim is a teenage girl from Burma who has been sent to be a wife of the King. She has great determination and is willing to take risks to get what she wants. She is in love with Lun Tha, an emissary for the Prince of Burma.
Vocal: Girl Soprano Dance:Mover Description: Princess Ying Yaowalak is one of the King’s youngest daughters. She is a delightful, eager little girl who is extremely fond of Anna and is heartbroken at the thought of losing her.
Vocal: Various ranges. Singing always in a group Dance: Movers Description: Children of the King. Some have individual acting and some individual dialogue lines.
