Soprano An innocent being from another world. At once naive and wise, the Prince learns from various people and creatures he meets on his journey, and passes on this knowledge to the Pilot. He has the patience to tend a Rose and tame a Fox, but not to indulge grown-up humans.
Soprano Rather silly, vain, and sweet. Happy in her ignorance, she believes nothing can harm her; and although she loves the Prince, she cannot bring herself to say so until it is too late.
Mezzo-soprano Curious and clever, but unexpectedly passionate at times. The Fox convinces the Prince to tame her, then teaches him the most important lesson of all: Eyes are blind, look only with the heart.
Tenor/soprano Seductive and dangerous. Speaks in riddles because it knows all the answers. Is not really good or evil--or, if it is, you can’t tell which.
Bass A stereotypical sort of monarch who sits on a throne and rules over a tiny planet, although he is convinced he rules the rest of the universe as well.
High tenor, A man obsessed with being admired. Must have the stamina to dance while singing high notes, sometimes through a kazoo.
Tenor/soprano The name of the character tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
Baritone A man who spends all his time counting the stars and listing them as his property.
Tenor/soprano A rather mysterious and dutiful person who has the task of lighting a lamp when the sun sets, and putting it out when the sun rises. Unfortunately, over the years their planet’s rotation has been getting faster and faster, so now they have to light and put out the lamp every couple of minutes.
High soprano The beautiful and wordless voice of a well in the middle of the desert. May not be visible to the audience.
