Description:

Performers aged 17 and up are welcome to audition for "The Importance of Being Earnest" Play. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Jack Worthing is a responsible country gentleman with a thoroughly irresponsible invention: a wayward younger brother named Ernest, whose frequent “troubles” give Jack an excuse to escape to London. There, Jack becomes Ernest himself and pursues the sophisticated Gwendolen Fairfax, who could love him forever—provided his name is Ernest. His friend Algernon Moncrieff, a charming bachelor with an appetite for cucumber sandwiches and convenient excuses, borrows the same identity to woo Jack’s imaginative young ward, Cecily Cardew. Unfortunately, she also has her heart set on marrying an Ernest. Naturally, this complicates things. Presiding over the romantic chaos is Gwendolen’s formidable mother, Lady Bracknell, whose requirements for a suitable husband include impeccable social standing, a respectable fortune, and parents who can actually be accounted for. Meanwhile, Cecily’s proper governess, Miss Prism, and the amiable Reverend Chasuble find their own reasons to take an interest in matters of the heart. As secret identities collide, engagements multiply, and a misplaced handbag becomes unexpectedly important, everyone discovers that the truth is rarely simple—and good manners are no guarantee of good behavior. Sparkling with razor-sharp wit, Wilde’s beloved comedy makes a glorious mess of love, class, and the very serious business of being trivial.
