Seeking Teens for "Little Women" Show
Teen performers needed for "Little Women" Show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: As a true masterpiece of American literature, Louisa May Alcott's heartwarming story of the March sisters - traditional eldest Meg, creative spitfire Jo, gentle homebody Beth, and ambitious artist Amy - has enjoyed countless revivals and reimaginings over the century and a half since its initial publication, but Kate Hamill's take on these beloved characters sees them revisited through a more modern and feminist lens that imbues new warmth, humor, and perspective into this classic coming-of-age tale. Departing from the more idealized romanticism of the source material in favor of a more realistic, socially conscious interpretation, this bold retelling embraces a warmer yet cheekier sense of humor and a more honest, unflinching depiction of the feminine experience. Set against the backdrop of the Civil War, which keeps their father away as he serves in the Union army, the March sisters must learn to cope with all the hardships accompanying the political, economic, and social landscape of the time and find ways to balance private ambition with societal expectation as they each navigate all the many pains, prides, and perils that accompany their evolution from young girls to little women. Rate: Non-union, unpaid Additional info: You may also be asked to read with other auditioners, so please allow at LEAST 30 minutes for your audition. If time is a factor for you, please communicate that upon booking your audition slot. If a minor is cast, a parent or legal guardian will be included in all discussions concerning physical contact and intimacy. Any intimate moments - including embraces and kissing - will be carefully choreographed by our Intimacy Coordinator using consent-based practices, with agreed-upon boundaries that may be revisited at any time. Minors will also have a separate, private changing area and will not be alone in a closed rehearsal space with an adult member of the production. Alternative staging may be used when an intimate scene involves both a minor and an adult performer. REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will begin with a readthrough on October 28th and continue through to the final tech week before the show opens on December 4th. There will be 3-4 rehearsals per week, including weekends. There will be a block of scheduled time off for the holidays in November. Participants are required to submit all conflicts at auditions and, since the bulk of the rehearsal period will be during the winter months, when inclement weather is a factor and may necessitate schedule flexibility, continue to update the production team on new conflicts that arise, even AFTER the rehearsal calendar has been distributed. 3 roles
The eldest March sister and Marmee’s dependable second-in-command. Romantic, responsible, and drawn to beauty and life’s little luxuries, Meg must decide what kind of future will truly make her happy.
Gentle, deeply empathetic, and painfully shy. Beth struggles to venture beyond the safety of her family to the point of being agoraphobic but possesses tremendous emotional insight, quiet courage, and a profound appreciation for life’s simplest joys. Ability to play piano is not required, but a plus.
The youngest March sister: stylish, socially perceptive, and opinionated. A perfect little lady - except for her temper, and her not-so-great command of “vocabiblary.” Madly in love with Laurie, around whom she is never cool.
