"Beloved" - Thesis Feature Film

Beloved is a graduation thesis feature film produced by Emily Carr University film students. Following the loss of their mother, nineteen-year-old Yatzil steps into the role of primary caregiver for her bright, observant ten-year-old brother, Sebastián. As Yatzil struggles to balance the weight of parenting with her desire for a normal teenage life, their family navigates grief, growing up, and the challenges of adjusting to life with their adoptive aunt and uncle. While the wider film explores psychological tension and family grief, the child’s role is firmly centered on the grounded, emotional bond between brother and sister. PRODUCTION SAFETY & PARENT NOTE: Minor-Centric Focus: The minor character does not participate in graphic horror elements; scenes involving the child focus on natural domestic family dynamics, sibling banter, and a scripted allergic reaction/medical emergency (EpiPen).
