A physical representation of Monty’s innocence. The young paletero is initially cheerful and excited as he tries to sell traditional Latin treats, but he becomes frightened by the protagonist. Although the protagonist was once in the paletero’s position himself, the encounter quickly turns threatening enough that the boy decides not to make the sale and runs away.
