Youth Audition for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"
Youth Auditions for “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. Please see the details below. About the project: Based on the beloved Disney animated feature and Victor Hugo’s epic novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame features an Academy Award-nominated score by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, with a new book by Peter Parnell. Set in fifteenth-century Paris, the story follows Quasimodo — a gentle bell-ringer kept hidden from the world by the manipulative archdeacon Frollo — as he ventures out and finds himself swept into a dramatic struggle involving the spirited Romani woman Esmeralda and the ruthless forces conspiring against her people. With sweeping choral music, gothic grandeur, and a story rooted in Hugo’s own words, this is a musical that asks the profound question “what makes a monster and what makes a man?”. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a breathtaking theatrical experience not to be missed. 7 roles
The bell-ringer of Notre Dame — lonely, big-hearted, and brave when it counts. His vivid imagination brings the bells and gargoyles to life. (Bb2–Bb4 tenor)
Archdeacon of Notre Dame and Quasimodo’s guardian — powerful, calculating, manipulative, and obsessive. (E2–D4 bass/baritone)
A free-spirited Romani woman with a fierce sense of justice. Compassionate and bold, she defies Frollo and reluctantly falls for Phoebus. (Eb3–Db5 mezzo soprano)
The new Captain of the Cathedral Guard — charming and overconfident, but with a strong moral compass. (Ab2–Ab4 tenor/baritenor)
The clever, charismatic Leader of the Roma — witty and theatrical with a darker side beneath the performance. (C3–G4 tenor)
Roma, gargoyles, soldiers, and citizens of Paris. The ensemble in this show is very involved musically and theatrically, and secondary principals listed below will be portrayed from actors within the ensemble in ‘story theater’ style.
As a dramatic feature of this show, there will also be a separate choir, costumed, seated and on book in the balconies of the theater. They will have a more limited rehearsal schedule but will begin no later than early October. If you are not cast, we may ask you to consider joining the choir.
