Regina is the leader of The Plastics. Every trend at North Shore High starts with her. She is regal, calculated, and a master of the social game of chess, but at her most vulnerable moments, she’s just another teenage girl facing the complexities that come with adolescence. When you’re in with her, life is good, but she’s a fearsome enemy nobody wants to have. Vocal Range: F♯3 to G♭5
At first, Cady is the definition of a “home schooled jungle freak.” At the start of the show, she’s out of her element, a stark contrast to who she morphs into later in the show. Her moments should still feel real and organic, not played or pushed. When she gets “in” with the plastics, social hierarchy gives her a clear structure she can buy into while she’s still finding her place in this new, confusing world. Vocal Range: G3 to G♭5
Janis is so much more than anger and bitterness. Janis is a “social outcast,” but embraces being different and deeply values her friendships. She doesn’t change to “fit in,” but she’s not blind to social standards. There are real moments of vulnerability and disappointment for Janis that stretch beyond her humor and spite. Damien and Janis are the narrators of the story, and their chemistry is essential to the humor and heart of the show. Vocal range: A♭3 to F5
Gretchen is an insecure people-pleaser and a follower (in terms of rules and social situations in general). She loves to dish everyone’s secrets to anyone who will listen to her, as knowledge gives her security and power. She is just trying to find security in herself, and does this by seeking validation from others. Excellent dancer, sweet vocalist. Vocal Range: G3 to D5
Karen is authentically herself and offers no apologies or excuses. She is not a caricature, but actually, through her lack of intelligence, has cracked the code to being an authentic person. The more honest Karen is, the funnier and more human she becomes. Vocal Range: G3 to G♭5
Despite Aaron’s attractiveness, he is a genuine kid who doesn’t care about being “cool.” He’s a man written by a woman, has a good moral compass, and a strong backbone. Aaron is as authentic as a teenager can be. Although he doesn’t enjoy the drama of high school social politics, he gets used as a pawn between Cady and Regina, though he genuinely likes Cady. Vocal Range: pop/Broadway tenor, with top note B♭4
Damian is smart, witty, and unapologetically himself. A natural performer who loves the spotlight, he does not need to be “on” all the time. As Co-chair of the Student Activities Committee and Janis’s best friend, he brings confidence, sarcasm, and heart, occasionally stepping in as the show’s narrator. He thrives on spectacle and is always ready to turn life into a broadway musical. Vocal Range: F2 to A4
He holds the power position of principal, but he’s exhausted by it. He doesn’t want the responsibility anymore—he’s overworked, under-resourced, and deeply done with these kids. The comedy comes from how hard he’s trying to maintain control while clearly losing it. He’s not incompetent—just worn down, reactive, and hanging on by a thread.
