About the project: A teenage African-American girl is still healing from a broken relationship and struggles not to become the issue in her next, she struggles to open up to her new person, and not fall into old cycles. Iris Dean wants to be loved but needs to be vulnerable, and over the course of the story, she will learn through her new experiences to finally open up to her new partner. Iris Dean's trauma takes the physical form of her ex-partner, the Male Figure, in visceral flashbacks, who is trying to keep her silent and complacent. But if she remains quiet and complacent, she will ruin her new relationship with Justin.
Justin is goofy, carefree and a little immature with a constant, deep want to learn, grow, and connect. Justin, a charismatic man, is trying to get to know Iris to build a deeper connection, but he's getting frustrated with all his attempts, and she's still not opening up. He's never seen the Male Figure but he does see the long-lasting effect he had on Iris and is willing to find a path of healing together with her.
