About the project: Series Concept: The Grip follows the interconnected lives of a diverse group of students at J.J. Mayor High School, located in the suburbs of Nashville. The series centers around a student-led debate group known as The Grip, which brings together teens from different social circles to confront major social, political, and cultural issues of today—while navigating personal struggles, relationships, and identity. A new sophomore transfer from Hartford, Connecticut. Sadie is intelligent, opinionated, and sharply witty. Raised by her mother, a former mayor, Sadie is conservative yet open-minded. She aspires to attend New York University. Love interest of Jacob.
A senior and captain of the varsity basketball team. Jacob is laid-back, charming, and well-liked. He has little interest in college, believing it’s too expensive. Older brother to Anna and love interest of Sadie.
A sophisticated and poised sophomore. Anna is uninterested in sports or politics but passionate about women’s rights. She hopes to attend New York University and shares her brother’s natural charm.
A compassionate and driven sophomore and president of The Grip. Trinity is well-liked throughout the school and deeply committed to civil rights. During the first season, her character experiences an unplanned pregnancy.
Mexican A sophomore with an edgy, darker personality. Rose dreams of pursuing a culinary career, loves to dance, and is determined to build a better future for her family.
A sophomore and member of the basketball team. Ahmad is outspoken, strongly anti-gun, and aspires to become a civil rights leader. He frequently records his surroundings and struggles with anger issues, which he manages through medication.
A laid-back sophomore and basketball player at J.J. Mayor High School. Tristain is charismatic, grounded, and well-respected among his peers. He shares a close bond with his mother, Towanda, and often serves as her emotional anchor. Son of Towanda Thomas.
A freshman and the youngest member of The Grip. Cheyenne is fiercely conservative, pro-gun, and unapologetically outspoken. She enjoys hunting and horseback riding and is tough, confident, and unafraid of confrontation.
