What The Light Touches
Chicago filmmakers Meredith Malin and Jakub Wasowski are currently casting a short film titled What the Light Touches. They are looking for two children to play principal roles. This will be a 5-hour shoot at the end of Jan. While it’s an unpaid opportunity, it offers a valuable chance for students to gain on-set experience and build strong material for reels. These shorts will be visually rich stories told primarily through action with minimal dialogue. If you're interested, please submit a short audition video via email. In the video, have the actor introduce themselves, state their age, and share a few details to help us get to know them, such as a favorite hobby, book, movie, or something they enjoyed doing in their free time.

Daniel is a smart kid who masks his insecurities behind bossy commands and forced toughness. His fear of rejection manifests into a need for control, which seeps into his friendship with Sam. Underneath all the bravado is a scared boy desperate to matter and even more desperate not to be left behind.
Sam is calm and quietly confident. He gives others room, listens more than he speaks, and doesn’t rattle easily. Where Daniel grasps for control, Sam trusts the moment; where Daniel fears being left, Sam believes relationships can bend without breaking. His calm presence and grounded sense of self make him a natural anchor which in turn intensifies Daniel's need for control.
