"Gypsy" Musical Needs Kids and Teens

Auditions for the "Gypsy" Musical are open for actors ages eight and up. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Gypsy is the ultimate tale of an ambitious stage mother fighting for her daughters’ success – while secretly yearning for her own. Set all across America in the 1920s and 30s, when vaudeville was dying, and burlesque was born, Arthur Laurents’ landmark show explores the world of two-bit show business with brass, humor, heart, and sophistication. Additional info: Auditions will include a dance portion, a singing portion, and a reading portion. An accompanist will be available at auditions, but actors are also welcome to bring a track. A note on Children in the cast: The production team would like to acknowledge that the subjects of Gypsy Rose Lee and Burlesque are not particularly conducive to children. Directors also know that Gypsy started her career performing with her sister and other children on vaudeville stages. To tell her story, it is important to acknowledge this and cast appropriately. As a team, they will do their due diligence to ensure that the children involved in this production are protected. This includes only involving the children in Act I, and rehearsing children’s scenes largely separately from the rest of the cast to keep them isolated from the more adult subject matter.
