About the project: In the rubble of the London Blitz of World War II, Alice Spencer’s budding teen life is turned upside down, and she and her dear friend Alfred are forced to take shelter in an underground tube station. When the ailing Alfred is quarantined, Alice encourages him to escape with her into their cherished book and journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. As they travel through the tale, Alice by Heart explores the poignancy of first love, coming to terms with loss, and finding the courage to move forward. This world premiere musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination, even in the harshest of times. Alto/Mezzo-Soprano – A curious and imaginative young girl on the cusp of womanhood, determined to escape her grim reality during WWII by immersing herself in her beloved storybook, navigating the complexities of love and loss. Strong Character Development is REQUIRED to be cast in this role.
Tenor – Alice’s charming yet ailing childhood friend, grappling with tuberculosis, who oscillates between a frantic White Rabbit and a bitter March Hare as he confronts his mortality and his feelings for Alice. Strong Character Development is REQUIRED to be cast in this role.
Soprano – A streetwise character with a sharp wit, whose guise as the Cheshire Cat serves as a guide for Alice through Wonderland with an air of mystery and gravity, balanced with compassion.
Mezzo-Soprano – An upper-class girl displaced by war, who embodies both naivety and resilience as the Queen of Diamonds.
Alto – A traumatized young boy whose experiences in wartime London manifest in his roles as the sleepy Dormouse, the conflicted Knave of Clubs.
Alto – Looking for a youthful and talented younger performer with strong vocal and acting prowess who resembles Alice.
Alto/Tenor – Looking for a youthful and talented younger performer with strong vocal and acting prowess who resembles Alfred.
ALL ensemble will serve as understudies. You must be willing to take a named role to be in this production.
