Emily is a bright, observant little girl whose innocence contrasts sharply with Hannah’s emotional turmoil. She is sweet-natured but wise beyond her years, the type of child who notices hurt in adults even when they try to hide it. Emily often clings to small symbols of hope — a handmade ornament, a worn-out stuffed animal, a favorite Bible verse — and she uses them to comfort others.
