Teens Needed for "Oklahoma" Show
Talent ages 16 and up are welcome to audition for the "Oklahoma" Show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards of modern musical theatre. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination, and the promise of a new land. Additional info: Participants will sing and dance during one visit. Please plan to be at the Palace for about an hour once your audition time begins. The first part of the audition will be your song for the production team. The second part of your time slot will be learning the dance combination. Depending on where you fall in the order, you may not have much time to change between singing and dancing, so please come in your dance audition outfit so that we can get you in and out on time. Please dress in clothing that you can dance and move freely in. Please refrain from wearing jeans or restrictive clothing for your dance audition. Initial dance auditions will consist of a jazz-style combo. All auditioners should bring jazz or flat-soled tennis shoes for the dance portion. If you do not have the requested shoes, sneakers are acceptable. Please note that you may be asked to partner dance at callbacks. The vocal audition should consist of no more than one minute (16-32 bars) of a folk, country, or western song of your choice. Please factor that into your song choice as you prepare your audition. We want to see what song you choose to highlight your talents as a singer & storyteller, WITHOUT singing anything from the show. Directors do not want to hear anything from the show during initial auditions. An accompanist will be provided, and we will also be able to connect to pre-recorded music if you bring that with you. Performers who are proficient in acoustic guitar and would like to show off that skill may accompany themselves for their vocal audition. They will not accept an acapella audition. If using pre-recorded music, please make sure to have the exact cut you will be using cued up prior to entering the audition room, and it shouldn’t include vocals. If using sheet music, please make sure it is in the correct key, with any cuts clearly marked and in a binder for the accompanist. The production is scheduled to open on Friday, March 20, and run through Sunday, April 19, 2026. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 26, 2025.
