Teens Needed for "Hairspray" Musical
All experience levels from high school age and up are welcome to audition for the "Hairspray" Musical. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Get ready for big hair, big dreams, and even bigger heart in Hairspray the Musical! It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and Tracy Turnblad just wants to dance her way onto the Corny Collins Show, but ends up shaking up more than just her hairdo. With catchy tunes, colorful characters, and a message of inclusion and self-love, this high-energy musical bursts with laughter, joy, and plenty of rhythm you can’t stop! A celebration of music, movement, and making change, Hairspray is a feel-good crowd-pleaser that will have you dancing in your seat. Additional info: If you’re ready to step into the spotlight, dance your heart out, and bring Baltimore to life, directors would love to see you there! Audition Components: Acting: Cold readings of Hairspray scenes with materials provided at auditions. Choreography: There will be a 16-count dance taught at auditions. Please let directors know if you are more of a dancer or a mover! Music: Please prepare a 16-bar cut of any song that shows off your voice and personality. Songs from the 1960s, pop, Motown, or lively musical theatre numbers are encouraged, but any song you feel confident singing is welcome! A pianist will be provided for auditions. The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy.
Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky, but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny.
