About the project: John Lennon and Me is a touching and often humorous play about friendship, dreams, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of illness. The story centers on Star, a teenage girl with cystic fibrosis who is in and out of a facility for chronically ill children. Despite her illness, Star is full of life, wit, and imagination. She’s obsessed with John Lennon and The Beatles, and she dreams of becoming an actress and living a glamorous Hollywood life — a dream she expresses through her sharp humor and daydreams. Star’s world changes when Courtney, a beautiful and popular new patient, arrives at the facility. At first, the two clash: Courtney is used to being admired, while Star hides her fear and vulnerability behind sarcasm. Over time, however, they form a deep friendship as they come to understand each other’s struggles — both physical and emotional. Throughout the play, Star faces her worsening condition with courage and humor. Her friendship with Courtney teaches both girls about love, loss, and what it means to really live. Even as Star’s health declines, her spirit remains strong. Additional info: Show dates are January 30, February 1, 6, 7, 8. Full presence, focus, and preparation are essential. Rehearsals will be held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:00–8:30 PM. There will be no weekend rehearsals until we approach tech week. CONFLICTS: With a short rehearsal period and an immersive production, every rehearsal counts. Please use the calendar to indicate any and all conflicts throughout the run — even on dates when rehearsals are not currently scheduled. This helps directors adjust as needed to accommodate actor availability. Attendance at tech week is mandatory for all cast members. Unfortunately, if you are unavailable during this critical final stretch, you will not be eligible for casting.
