Love caused Vivian's birth mother to surrender her, and love enkindled Vivian's adopted mother to take her in. This diverse family is created by choice and must work to build a bond stronger than blood. In Our Eyes takes place in the early 2000s, right at the beginning of when USA international adoptions were spurring attention from longing parents looking to start a family.
