Pearce is very determined product of a political regime that has been in place since his birth. He covets a leadership in The Clave, a New Order Party Youth Group which he has belonged to since he was a very young child. To this end he chooses to make points within The Clave by turning in his Uncle Lloyd to the authorities for conducting outlawed scientific research. Lloyd has always hated the party and all it stands for, Pearce has always hated Lloyd.
