Seeking teen performers for "Once Upon a Mattress" play. See details below. About the project: Once Upon a Mattress tells the story of the princess and the pea through song, dance and flawless comedic timing. This show launched the incredible careers of Carol Burnett and Sarah Jessica Parker, so there is a hint of magic too! Additional info: Please note: there is a production fee applied. Callbacks: Wednesday, April 9 – Times will be assigned Callbacks will be requested for select roles as needed. Prepare 32 measures of a song (no more than 2 minutes) of your choice that fits the style of the show or desired character An accompanist will be provided. Please bring a copy of your music, in your key, clearly marking your start and end point for the pianist, printed double-sided and in a 3-ring binder. Please do not staple your music. Come prepared to move for some light choreography Be aware that you may be asked to read lines or sing a selection from the show at auditions or callbacks You will be asked to complete an actor agreement. Please bring a performance resume if you have one. If under age 18, a parent signature is required on the Actor Agreement. Bring a listing of all your potential rehearsal conflicts from May through June 2025. Bring a headshot. A simple selfie is all that is needed. In-person auditions are strongly preferred First rehearsal will be in early May All cast members must be available for rehearsals during tech week June 14 – June 19, 2025 Rehearsals will generally be held Sunday through Thursday evenings in the northwest suburban area. Performances: June 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m., June 22 at 4:00 p.m. and June 29 at 2:30 p.m. Please see the attachment for details. If you are interested please apply.

Princess Winnifred the WoebegoneFemale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Mezzo-Soprano. Leading role: A brash and unrefined princess from the Marshlands; strong, independent, optimistic — she is the Kingdom’s last hope for a bride for Prince Dauntless. She is the hero of the play.

Prince DauntlessMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Tenor. Leading role: The son of the King and Queen. Dauntless has been kept in a state of arrested development by his mother. Desperately wants to grow up and get married, but the Queen rejects every potential bride. Falls in love with Winnifred at first sight, certain she’s the one to restore the Kingdom!

JesterMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Tenor. Supporting role: The King’s right-hand man (or woman!), often plotting with the Minstrel to disrupt the Queen’s schemes; playful, wry, and quick-witted — often serves as translator for the King.

Lady LarkenFemale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Soprano. Supporting role: The classic musical theater ingenue; a graceful, charming, beautiful and eager-to-please lady-in-waiting. She is in love with Sir Harry and desperately wants to marry him.

Tenor. Supporting role: A handsome, charismatic narrator who acts as the play’s storyteller; he becomes smitten with Lady Larken and plots run away with her; frequently joins forces with the Jester to thwart the Queen’s schemes.

Tenor. Supporting role: A chivalrous knight who is deeply in love with Lady Larken, but cannot marry her until Prince Dauntless finds a suitable princess. Dedicated and bold, but doesn’t always look before he leaps.
