Dance Opportunities for Kids in "Oliver" Musical
Youths in 2nd grade and older are welcome to audition for the "Oliver" Musical. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: How to Prepare for Your Audition: 1. Familiarize Yourself with the Story & Characters Oliver! is based on Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Directors encourage all auditioners to watch the 1968 film version of the musical and listen to the original cast recording. Understanding the story, characters, and tone of the show will help you perform with confidence. 2. Vocal Audition Directors recommend listening to the "Oliver!" soundtrack and becoming familiar with songs that suit your age and vocal range. Be ready to sing a short section of a song from the show or a song of your choosing. Younger children should focus on songs like “Where Is Love?” or “Consider Yourself.” 3. Acting Audition Cold readings from the script will be provided at auditions. You do not need to memorize anything in advance. Expressive, confident performances are encouraged—don’t be afraid to bring energy and emotion to your reading! 4. Dance Audition A simple dance routine will be taught at auditions to assess movement ability. Directors will provide a video (coming soon) with choreography ahead of time so you can learn the steps in advance. Be sure to watch and practice! Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow for movement (no flip-flops or heels). 5. Additional Tips Arrive early to fill out any necessary paperwork and warm up.
