Dance Opportunities for Kids in "Shrek the Musical"
Seeking kids ages 7 and up for "Shrek the Musical". Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Dance: A short FUN dance sequence will be taught at auditions to see how you move. Don’t be intimidated by this! The director may ask some actors to learn a second short dance sequence for callbacks and will provide more information at that time. Music: Please come prepared to sing a 1-minute excerpt from any Broadway song (songs from Shrek are ok, or any other Broadway musical) that you feel comfortable singing and that showcases your voice. You may bring sheet music for our accompanist for songs that are not in Shrek (directors have the Shrek music), or provide a karaoke track. A cappella auditions are discouraged. Acting: Directors will have you do some readings from the script at auditions. You may be asked to read for roles you may not have listed as preferred roles. Attire: Please wear audition-appropriate attire (business casual), but remember there will be dancing so wear or bring shoes you can move in. If interested, please apply.

A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified babysitter. This is a voice-only role for voicing our giant dragon puppet! Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: F3
The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. Vocal range top: F#4 Vocal range bottom: E3
A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Puppet to be operated by the actress playing the Sugar Plum Fairy. Vocal range top: C#5 Vocal range bottom: B3
Young Fiona is a featured soloist in “I Know It’s Today,” during which we see Fiona as she grows older. The actress in this role must be an expressive vocalist who can match tone and character with Teen and Adult Fionas. Height may be a factor in casting this role.
Young Shrek appears at the beginning of the play as we see Shrek as a young ogre going out into the big bright beautiful world. This may be doubled with the Baby Bear character.
Farquaad’s estranged father comes forward at the wedding to expose Farquaad’s troubled childhood as more fiction than fact. This role also appears in all fairytale character scenes and songs, along with the other 6 dwarves.
