About the project: Ragtime is a sweeping musical portrait of early 20th century America. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together – that of an upper-class White mother, a determined Jewish immigrant, and a daring Black musician – united by their courage and belief in the promise of the future. They confront history’s contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America. Auditioners should be aware that Ragtime is rated PG 13 for insensitive racial language. Additional info: AUDITIONS: Saturday, July 20 at 12 pm and Sunday, July 21 at 6 pm Callbacks (if required) Tuesday, July 23 at 7 pm Rehearsals Begin July 27 at 12 pm PRODUCTION DATES: September 6 – 22, 2024 Performances Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm (Possible extension through September 29) Auditioners are asked sing 16-32 bars of a song of the style that also that best shows off their voice and range. An accompanist is provided; please bring sheet music. No recorded accompaniment, please. Please dress for dance audition following. Auditioners should be prepared with a short monologue if requested. - Bring your sheet music - Bring headshot, and resume if available and if not already submitted via link above Video Auditions: Must be submitted prior to July 20, and may substitute for appearing at the Saturday and Sunday auditions. Auditioners must be available to attend in-person callbacks July 22 if required. Video should include a short monologue, 16- 32 bars of a song that best shows off their voice and range, 1 minute dance routine demonstrating dance training, and be uploaded with a headshot, and a resume (if available) when filling out the digital audition form. Innocent and pure. Son of Coalhouse and Sarah. This role appears briefly at the end of the play and has no lines or songs.
