Looking for boys and girls in "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" show. See the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: A motley crew of six adolescents takes the stage, but only one will earn the champion title in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! This delightfully witty and heartfelt musical has captivated audiences since its Tony Award-winning premiere in 2005. As the six preteens compete for the title, they tackle tricky words and even trickier circumstances while sharing their often comical and uniquely touching personal stories. Featuring music by two-time Tony winner William Finn and a book by Tony winner Rachel Sheinkin, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will have you pirouetting with cachinnation in your pew! Rate: Principle actors will be paid $1500 for rehearsal and performance. Understudies will be paid $1000 for rehearsal and performance. Additional info: Please NOTE: **As the Company is a disability-affirmative theatre, all actors who submit for Phamaly must identify as having a disability. Phamaly takes a non-hierarchal view of disability, and there is no such thing as “less disabled” or “more disabled.” If you identify as having a disability, then you are welcome to audition** All actors must be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus or have a medical Rehearsals Dates: Rehearsals begin Sunday, February 1st, and will run through March 14th A typical rehearsal schedule is Tuesdays through Fridays from 6 pm - 10 pm and Saturdays from 12 pm – 5 pm All rehearsals will take place in the Denver Metro Area. Please check out the full rehearsal schedule in the attachment for specific times. Spacing and Technical Rehearsals, beginning on March 12th and continuing through March 19th. Performance Dates Previews: 3/20 + 3/21 Performances: 3/22 through 4/7 A Full rehearsal & performance schedule can be found by clicking the following in the attachment. No prior experience is necessary. Spelling Bee Callback: December 7th from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm If auditioning for just Spelling Bee, please prepare a 30 – 45 second selection of a song of your choosing in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided, but you can also bring a Karaoke track. If performing with the accompanist, please bring sheet music clearly marked and in the correct key. If using a track, please have it cut to the specific selection. In addition, please prepare a 30-second comedic monologue in the style of the show. The moderator of the Spelling Bee. Rona is a kind woman who loves children but is living in the past, moderating the competition to relive her glory days as a spelling bee champion. (mezzo-soprano)

Vice Principal Douglas PanchMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Panch is another moderator at the Spelling Bee and Vice Principal at one of the competitions. He has been absent from the competition for five years after an “incident.” He is infatuated with Rona, but she does not reciprocate his affections. (does not sing)

Mitch MahoneyMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Mitch's official comfort counselor is an ex-convict who uses the Bee for community service. A tough exterior with a heart of gold. (tenor)

Olive OstrovskyFemale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Olive is a newcomer to the Spelling Bee. Initially shy and quiet, she dealt with her troubled home life by studying the. She is kind and is somewhat taken aback by the antics of the other participants. (mezzo-soprano)

William Morris BarfeeMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

A finalist in last year’s Spelling Bee, Barfee was eliminated because of an allergic reaction to peanuts. Having come so close last year, Barfee comes in with a temper and drive that he hopes will push him to the top. He uses his patented “Magic Foot” technique to aid him in the Bee. (tenor)

Logainne is the youngest speller and is pushed to win by her two overbearing adoptive parents. Logainne is obsessed with political issues and frequently advocates for various communities…maybe to an annoying extent. (mezzo-soprano)

Marcy ParkFemale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Marcy is a recent transfer student from Virginia. She placed ninth in last year’s national Spelling An overachiever, there is very little that Marcy has not accomplished to perfection in her life. She struggles managing the enormous expectations that she puts on herself. (mezzo-soprano)

Leaf ConeybearMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Leaf is homeschooled by his parents and got third in his district, but is allowed to participate after the winner and second place had to go to the winner's. Bat. His family believes he is not very smart, which has rubbed off on Leaf. As he progresses in the competition, he begins to receive more self-confidence. (tenor)

Chip TolentinoMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Chip is a boy scout and champion of the 24th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee; returning to defend his Chip is the favorite to win but finds that puberty hits at just the wrong moment. (tenor)

UnderstudiesBoth genders17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

For this production, Phamaly will cast up to four understudies, each covering two to three roles. Understudies are guaranteed a performance in one of their roles; dates to be determined. Unstudies will be required to come to 50% of rehearsals.
