Looking for kids ages 8-15 years old for "The Miracle Worker" Show. Please see the details below. About the project: THE MIRACLE WORKER is the tremendous, heartwarming story of an incredible friendship and bond between a teacher, Annie Sullivan, and her deaf and blind student, Helen Keller. Set in Tuscumbia, Alabama Helen renders an illness at 18 months old that leaves her blind and deaf. Her parents, who pity and spoil their afflicted daughter, are desperate to have order, hire a young Annie Sullivan to try and reach the mind of Helen. After many battles and disciplined weeks together, Annie breaks through to Helen, giving her a connection to language and all the world has to offer. Additional info: Readings from the script. Some monologues are required. Arrive a few minutes before 6:30 pm to fill out an audition form. What to bring: Bring a headshot (non-professional is fine). Personal Calendar (check for date conflicts). Theater Resume (optional). You will fill out a short informational sheet upon arrival. Directors will be doing readings from the script, but they strongly encourage you to prepare before you come. A portion of the script can be found in the attachment. When you find a role (or several) that you would like to audition for, take note of the Audition Sides for each character to help focus your preparation. Directors have found that actors who come to auditions with a strong familiarity with the script do far better than those who rely on “cold” readings. If interested, please apply.

Helen is a deaf, blind mute. She is trapped in her own world, unable to speak, hear, or see. She is almost not human as she has been blind and deaf since she was stricken with scarlet fever as a baby. She is involved in intense physical scenes. James is Helen’s half-brother, the son of the captain. He is described as indolent. He sees Helen as mentally defective and believes it best she be put in an asylum. Audition Sides: p12-14, 111-113
