"James and The Giant Peach" Show Seeks Kids
Audition for "James and The Giant Peach" Show. There are at least 18 available roles, including excellent roles for both boys and girls. About the project: James Henry Trotter lives with his cruel aunts Spiker and Sponge until one day the barren, old peach tree in their yard produces a single peach that grows to nearly the size of a house. When James takes a closer look at the enormous fruit, he discovers a tunnel that leads him to the peach pit where he meets a rag-tag band of human-sized, talking invertebrates: an old green grasshopper, a centipede, an earthworm, a spider, a ladybird, a glowworm, and a silkworm. These bugs become James’ companions on an adventure that will take them over land and sea! And as they travel James learns important lessons about courage, friendship. and seagulls. Additional info: Auditions are by appointment only. The play’s genre is adventure/comedy drama. Choose an appropriate monologue with large theatrical ranges, preferably from a published play. No songs or poems. Monologues will be evaluated on memorization, volume, clearness of diction, depth of emotional expression, and comic timing or dramatic depth of emotion. The ability of physical transformation is a major plus. Auditionees should prepare a SHORT (one-minute) monologue from a play or novel. The monologue should express emotional range and a theatrical level of volume and expression. The play’s genre is fantastic comedy. Choose an appropriate monologue, preferably from a published play. Auditionees may select a cutting from a published book. No songs or poems. Please, no monologues from films or television shows. Monologues will be evaluated on volume, clearness of diction, and depth of emotional expression. The ability of physical transformation is an advantage. Memorization is required. Auditionees should bring their calendars. Actors will be asked to list all conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. A detailed schedule will be available at the auditions. The director will make every attempt to work around conflicts, whenever possible. PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, November 17, 2024, continuing through Thursday, January 16, 2025. Rehearsals are held on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. Actors should expect to attend most, but not all, rehearsals; conflicts may be listed at the audition. Orientation/First rehearsal on Sunday, November 17 is mandatory for first-time participants. Tech rehearsals, on January 9, 12, 13, 15, and 16 are mandatory. Actors must also be available for all 18 regular performances: January 17 – February 02, 2025, Thursdays through Sundays, including two-morning matinees on Wednesday 01/22/25.
