Young Talent Wanted for Singing Auditions "Mean Girls Jr."
Penn Middle School students in grades 6-8 are invited to audition for the "Mean Girls Jr." Show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. Cady and her friends devise a "Revenge Party" to end Regina’s reign with Cady going undercover as an aspiring Plastic. When the lines between the real Cady and her Plastic self get blurred, she must find her way back to herself and her true friends. Additional info: Call Backs - Thursday, November 7th, 5:30-8:30 pm, Penn Middle Auditorium. Some students will be dismissed early. The callback list will be posted on the evening of November 6th. AUDITION TIPS & INFORMATION: Type of Song: Directors strongly suggest you sing a song from a musical, not a pop song. This is not required but is a suggestion. Since Mean Girls is a contemporary musical, directors suggest choosing a song that fits the "vibe" of the show, which is more upbeat and modern. Length: Come prepared to perform one minute of your audition song. Directors may not let you sing the whole minute due to time, but be prepared to if we ask. You do not have to start at the beginning of the song. Choose a part of the song that is going to show off your range or the part of the song you feel you can sing the best Music: Directors highly suggest singing your song with a backing track that does NOT have the words. They really can't assess your voice unless you use a karaoke or instrumental track. Directors will have a speaker available and can play your track for you. See the attachment for details. Memorization: Have your song memorized - you will perform better that way. Dress: Bring shoes you can dance in and clothes you can move in. Some students like to dress similar to the part that they want and bring a change of clothes for the dance audition and that is fine. Remember to stay hydrated, so bring your water! And feel free to bring a small snack to keep those energy levels up. If interested, please apply.
33 roles
Co-chair of the Student Activities Committee and Janis’s best friend. Damian is smart, witty, and confident and occasionally serves as the show’s narrator.
Marches to the beat of her own drum and, with Damian, narrates throughout the show. After a falling-out with Regina in middle school, she became a bit of a social outcast and still holds a grudge against Regina. Damian is her best friend and lovingly refers to her as his “art freak.”
Arrives at North Shore High a clueless transfer student but is quickly wrapped up in brutal social politics. Though at her core Cady is levelheaded, self-assured, and kind, when she goes undercover with the Plastics, she becomes unrecognizable.
Cady’s homeroom and calculus teacher, and she oversees the Mathletes. Though she is a bit jaded and more than a little sarcastic, Ms. Norbury sees the real Cady and encourages her to be true to herself.
The undisputed Queen Bee of North Shore High School, and she knows it. She’s confident, clever, and completely unbothered by anyone else’s opinion. While Regina purposefully manipulates everyone around her (including her own mom), at her heart, she’s trying to fit in, just like everyone else.
Regina’s stressed-out second-in-command. As much as Regina appears not to care what people think, Gretchen cares very much, and she’s especially paranoid when it comes to Regina. She takes the Plastics very seriously and is completely controlled by Regina, until Cady comes along.
The third member of the Plastics. While Karen’s lack of intelligence is a running joke throughout the show, she sees the other girls more clearly than most people and is the most laid back of the three.
A nice guy who has no idea that he’s the high school heartthrob. Although he doesn’t enjoy the drama of high school social politics, he gets used as a pawn between Cady and Regina, though he genuinely likes Cady.
The school principal. Like Ms. Norbury, he’s seen it all, although he’s slightly more formal and sincere than Ms. Norbury’s sarcasm.
A couple of spoken lines but much discussed in the show's plot.
Captain of the Mathletes! He’s confident and excited about competing with the team, and he’s proud of their accomplishments.
Kevin G's second in command.
Desperate to be a "cool mom".
