Seeking Teenagers for "The Diary of Anne Frank" Play
Audition for "The Diary of Anne Frank". Actors 12+ are encouraged to audition. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: The play opens on July 6, 1942 in Amsterdam. Because they are Jews, the Frank and van Daan families move into hiding to avoid arrest by the Nazis. Mr. Kraler and Miep Gies, Christian business associates and trusted friends, help everyone get settled in the secret annex: Mr. and Mrs. Frank and their daughters, Margot and Anne, as well as Mr. and Mrs. van Daan and their son, Peter. The outsiders leave, assuring the two families that they will help them in hiding for as long as it takes. As the families begin to unpack, Anne tries to get acquainted with the shy Peter. Over all these are the haunting words from Anne’s diary. Months pass, and Anne’s carefree nature begins to cause problems. Mrs. Van Daan thinks she is rude, Margot is becoming distant, and Peter (her only hope for a friend) is very shy. In addition, her relationship with her mother is very strained. Additional info: Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, November 26th, and will be held primarily on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00 PM, as well as, and Sunday from 2:00-5:00 pm. *Not all actors cast will be called to every rehearsal. The schedule may vary. A 13 year-old girl, ages to 15, warm, witty, intelligent, charming, self-aware, sensitive, often impatient, sometimes a know-it-all, open, determined, easily hurt, spirited, hopeful, fun-loving, desperate, with all the longings, expectations and attitudes that adolescence brings. Though hiding and living in constant fear and isolation, she never gave up. She had a fraught relationship with her mother, adored her father, and lovingly envied her sister.
A 15 year-old sister of Anne, ages to 17, pretty, quiet, obedient, demure, frail, friendly, very intelligent, overwhelmed by the trials of hiding, very close to her mother and father. Like Anne, she longed for a friend in whom she could confide. She played the role of peacemaker when Anne overstepped. She was a good girl and was admired by all.
Withdrawn, unsure, awkward, immature, shy, sometimes amusing, attached to his cat, tries to stay out of everyone’s way, hates his mother and father’s constant quarrels, ages from the introverted teenager to the more mature 19-year-old who enjoys the company of the girls and who begins to be interested in all the other occupants of the Annex.
