Audition for "Newsies" Show. To audition for a role in Newsies, you must be at least 12 years old on Sunday 8/25/24. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this new Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.” Additional info: Callbacks will be held on Thursday 8/29 in the evening. Only certain auditioners for certain roles will be called back. If you do not receive a callback, it does not mean you were not cast in the show, only that the team did not need to see you in the callback setting. Callbacks will include scene work and additional vocal selections. If the actor is under the age of 18 years old, teams will also need to speak with a parent or guardian. Please fill out your online audition form before the day of your in-person audition. If you are under 18, you will also need a parent or guardian to sign your form. Please bring a water bottle. Please wear clothing that you can move in. We recommend wearing leggings, shorts, sweatpants, etc. Please wear jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, or clean sneakers for the dance audition. There are two optional sections to the dance audition (details below). If you wish to participate in the knee movement section, please bring knee pads if you have them. If you wish to participate in the tap section, please bring tap shoes if you have them, otherwise please bring hard-soled shoes. If you are cast in Newsies, you will be asked to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule outlined below: Rehearsals: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 6:45-10 PM & Sundays from 12:45-5 PM. You will likely not be needed for every rehearsal. They will be held at Lyric Creative Space. Show Week: All cast members are required to attend technical rehearsals, orchestra rehearsal, and dress rehearsals. This also includes all performances and strike. Technical Rehearsals: Saturday 11/9 9 AM-5 PM and Sunday 11/10 9 AM-11 PM Orchestra & Dress Rehearsals: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings 11/11-11/13 beginning at 5:30 PM Performances: Thursday 11/14 & Friday 11/15 beginning at 5:30 PM; Saturday 11/16 & Sunday 11/17 beginning at 11 AM Strike: Immediately following final performance. Youth actors will be released no later than 11 PM. Adult actors may need to stay as late as 1 AM. All actors must participate in at least one warehouse cleanup on 11/23, 11/30, or 12/7 from 9 AM-noon. Directors may also ask that you be available for promotional appearances and costume fittings.
