About the project: In May 1873, a bustling carnival enlivens a small fishing village on the rocky New England coastline. Charming but troubled Billy Bigelow and Julie Jordan, a quiet girl who works in the mill, fall in love, marry and have a stormy relationship that leads to tragedy and an attempt at mending old wounds from beyond the grave. Songs include “June is Busting Out All Over,” “If I Loved You,” and the beautiful “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Additional info: CALLBACKS Tuesday, July 16 – 6:30 PM – Main Stage Please prepare a 1 minute or less cut from a musical of a similar style. Please bring prepared sheet music or an instrumental track on a device with a 3.5mm audio jack/aux — sheet music preferred. Please be prepared to move and dance at auditions and callbacks. Billy and Julie’s inquisitive 15-year-old daughter, on the verge of becoming a woman, but troubled and insecure. Central character in the “Carousel Ballet.” Will double in ensemble in Act 1. STRONG DANCER.
Julie is quiet and thoughtful, but still waters run deep. Sees something in Billy that no one else seems to see and stands by him no matter what. Julie has an inner strength and maturity in the second act as the mother of fifteen-year-old Louise. Must be a strong singer and strong actor. Soprano.
Lively and funny, but more than a little bit naïve, Carrie is Julie’s friend and co-worker. In love with Enoch Snow, Carrie offers a light-hearted balance to Julie’s seriousness. Matures into a somewhat disillusioned mother of 9 in the second act. Must be a strong singer and strong actor. Mezzo.
