Casting Call for Teens in "Jesus Christ Superstar" Play
Auditions are being held for a teen roles in the play "Jesus Christ Superstar." Please see the details below for more information. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: This is a show that lends itself to highlighting different aspects of this very famous story. This production will focus on the more political and historical aspects of the time that ultimately led to Jesus’ death sentence while emphasizing this iconic score through movement and some new perspectives of the characters involved. It will be joyful, terrifying, silly, sad, and above all, thought-provoking. Additional info: Please select a 1-minute cut of a song in the rock music style of this show. Vocal range: A2–A♭4, falsetto to G5 A Jewish leader who is teaching some revolutionary ideas that are fairly divisive within multiple communities. Ultimately the extremes of these communities lead to his being sentenced to death. He is the leader of the twelve Apostles, significant other to Mary, and close friends with Judas. *This role will involve participating in staged violence (being whipped/placed on a cross/suffering/death).
Vocal range: D3–E♭5, optional E5 One of the twelve apostles of Jesus; concerned for the poor and the consequences of Jesus' fame and non-traditional ideas, being a man of strong tradition and moral values himself. He is plagued between loyalty to his traditional values and his love for his friend. The antagonist of our story. This role will likely include staged lip contact with Jesus and stage violence with Caiaphas.
Vocal range: F3–E♭5 A female follower of Jesus who is also his significant other. She has had a privileged background and Jesus has opened her eyes to what her sheltered background has not. She goes through several struggles in this story to come to new understanding, be accepted, survive trauma, and make difficult decisions for herself and others. This role may include staged lip contact with Jesus.
Vocal range: A2–G4 One of Jesus' twelve apostles; denies Jesus three times upon the night of Jesus' arrest to save himself.
Vocal range: G3–B4 One of Jesus' twelve apostles; urges Jesus to lead his followers into battle against the Romans.
Vocal range: A2–B♭4 Governor of Judea who foresees the events of Jesus' crucifixion from beginning to aftermath in a dream and finds himself being presented with that very situation. Ultimately Pilate is pressured by both his government and Jesus’ followers into ordering Jesus’ execution.
Vocal range: B2–G4 Ruler of Galilee and Perea; Jesus is brought to him for judgment after first being taken to Pilate, either out of political diplomacy or strategy. After not getting the reception he desires from Jesus, Herod sends Jesus back to Pilate’s court for a final ruling.
Vocal range: C♯2–F4 High priest who sees Jesus as a threat to the nation. May have staged violence with Judas.
Vocal range: G2–D5 Fellow priest at the side of Caiaphas who is persuaded by Caiaphas into seeing Jesus as a threat.
Are aiming to create an ensemble of strong contemporary singers and movers. The ensemble will be highly utilized throughout the show and there will be multiple highlighted individual and small group opportunities. The ensemble will also be involved in scenes involving staged violence. Everyone will also have a ridiculous amount of fun.
