About the project: Everyone’s favorite holiday classic returns to Youtheatre in an all-new production. Charles M. Schulz’s Emmy Award-winning A Charlie Brown Christmas has been warming hearts since it debuted on television over 50 years ago. Now the whole family can join Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, good ol’ Charlie Brown, and the whole Peanuts gang as they sing, dance, and learn the true meaning of Christmas LIVE ON-STAGE! Featuring the unforgettable music of Vince Guaraldi, A Charlie Brown Christmas is a gift everyone will enjoy. Additional info: Everyone should be prepared to: -Sing the provided audition song. Sheet Music is available in the Audition Packet attached. -Read ONE (your choice) of the short monologues on the Open Audition Readings page. -Learn a brief Dance Audition. (Please wear clothes/shoes you can move freely in.) REHEARSALS: Mondays- Fridays, Oct. 30- Dec. 1 (4:30- 6:30/7:00 PM). Note: Not all actors will be called for all dates & times. Schedules will be made after casting. No rehearsal on 11/22, 11/23, or 11/24 for Thanksgiving. TECH SUNDAY: Sunday, Dec. 3 (Noon- 5:00 PM) TECH WEEK: Monday, Dec. 4- Thursday, Dec. 7 (4:30- 8:00 PM) Note: All cast & crew are required at Tech Sunday, Tech Week & Performances. Depicted as a "lovable loser," Charlie Brown is characterized as a person who frequently suffers, and as a result is usually nervous andlacks self-confidence. He shows both pessimistic and optimistic attitudes: on some days, he is reluctant to go out because his day might just be spoiled, but on others, he hopes for the best and tries as much as he can to accomplish things.
Charlie Brown’s pet beagle. Snoopy is loyal, innocent, imaginative and good-natured; known for his “happy dance” and his numerous alteregos. A non-speaking role- physicality and improv a must. Must be able to dance and move freely.
Linus’ older sister. Lucy is characterized as a "fussbudget", crabby, bossy, and opinionated girl who bullies most other characters in the strip, particularly Linus and Charlie Brown.
Charlie Brown’s blanket-toting best friend and Lucy’s little brother; Sally’s love interest; Though young and insecure, Linus is very intelligent and very wise; and acts as the group’s philosopher and theologian. Linus is sympathetic towards Charlie Brown and often gives him advice after listening to Charlie Brown's various insecurities.
The youngest of the group, with a very young-sounding voice; Charlie Brown’s little sister who has a crush on Linus; is adorable and spunky but often overreacts to situations.
A very talented musician, who is obsessed with the music of Beethoven; Lucy’s love interest; Charlie Brown’s second-best friend after Linus.
Known for attracting dust, making him very filthy but with a good heart.
The girl who brags about her “naturally curly hair”; a total diva.
As a jealous girl who likes bragging and, along with her friends Patty and Lucy often teases and torments Charlie Brown.
Not to be confused with Peppermint Patty. Patty is a girl who thinks highly of herself, and because of her self-opinion, she often torments the hapless Charlie Brown.
A friend of Charlie Brown’s. Very dry; complains he always gets cast as a shepherd in the play.
This tomboy is forthright and doggedly loyal, with a devastating singleness of purpose. She goes through life with blinders on.
Marcie is bookish, insightful, and introverted, but always willing to help. She is Peppermint Patty's sidekick and the voice of reason.
Snoopy's little birdie sidekick is innocently childlike. Woodstock is generally good, patient, kind, and caring.
