A Change in Gear Concept Statement: This new steampunk adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic embraces the genre’s iconic Victorian-era industrialism, romanticism, and retrofuturistic technology while staying true to Dickens’ mastery of language and satire. Steampunk has been described as “a genre that imagines how different the past might have been had the future come earlier”. So what could be a more apt way to take a fresh look at the story of Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge and his life-changing meetings with the Spirits of Past, Present, and Future as they attempt to save him from the fate that awaits him. During his life, Marley was Ebenezer Scrooge’s equally greedy business partner. He appears to Scrooge as a ghost condemned to wander the world bound in heavy chains. Marley hopes to save his old partner and as he learned too late more importantly , friend, from suffering the same fate.
A cold hearted man known throughout his town for his lack of compassion and stinginess. He hates Christmas which he only associates with reckless spending. Throughout the course of the show he undergoes a profound transformation from a cold-hearted miser to a generous and compassionate benefactor. The change is brought on from the lessons he learns through visions brought on by the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
Scrooge’s nephew and the only son of Scrooge’s beloved late sister Fan. Fred is kind-hearted, and embodies the Christmas spirit acting in virtues associated with that time of year namely goodwill, and generosity towards others.
An underpaid clerk working for Scrooge. In spite of the cruel treatment he endures at work, Bob does his job without complaint. He is a dedicated and humble worker, a loving father and husband, and a kind man overall.
The first spirit to visit Scrooge and his younger sister. She is full of life, joy and sincerity, and is responsible for showing Scrooge that his life was not always without Christmas spirit, and where his life began to make that turn. As the First Spirit her movements resemble that of a music box ballerina, they should be delicate yet stiff and as Fan become fluid. Must Move well, Dance experience is a plus.

The jovial merchant with whom the young Scrooge apprenticed, he was renowned for his wonderful Christmas parties. When reappearing as the second spirit he carries this joy with him even with only one day granted to live.
Scrooge’s young love from the past. Belle broke off their engagement after Scrooge became consumed with greed and wealth and began to forget the world around him including Belle. Belle eventually marries another man, and yet can’t help but feel compassion for Scrooge despite their past.
