About the project: The Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon comes to life on stage! Simba, a naive and curious lion cub, struggles to find his place in nature's great 'circle of life'. After being forced into exile by his evil and greedy uncle, Scar, Simba meets hilarious friends Timon & Pumbaa, and with their help, overcomes great fear and adversity to take his rightful place as ruler of the Pride Lands. Additional info: You should only audition for one of the two nights offered. Auditionees will be seen in the order their audition form is received. Once an actor has auditioned, they may leave. They do not need to stay for the entire 2-hour timeframe. Callbacks will be on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 10 am-4 pm. The date of callbacks is subject to change pending actor & creative team availability. If an actor is unable to attend callbacks, the directors MAY be able to accommodate a separate callback date, but the directors cannot guarantee it. At callbacks, actors will read scenes from the script, learn songs from the show, and learn a short dance combination. All auditionees are required to prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song. Actors should bring their own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Singing from a music track or singing acapella is discouraged. - Auditionees should choose a song that shows off vocal range, and strong acting choices, and that is age-appropriate. - Memorization of your song is highly encouraged. - If you do not have a song, one will be provided for you at auditions. You may use one of these songs, or you may use one of your own choosing. - There will not be a dance call at auditions. Actors will only dance callbacks (if called back). - Bring your schedule to fill in all of your potential rehearsal conflicts on the audition form—conflicts may NOT be added after casting! Rehearsals will occur Dec 6, 2023-Feb 7, 2023-- but not every day. Rehearsals will mainly occur Monday-Friday (5:30-7:30 p.m.). The directors will not rehearse December 23, 2023 -January 1, 2024. Vocal Range: A3-C5. A wise, omni mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. Sings significant solos in "Circle of Life" and "He Lives in You.” Strong singer needed.
Vocal Range: B3-C5. The strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Mufasa should command respect onstage and also show tenderness with his son, Simba.
Vocal Range: A3-A4. The antagonist is overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands.
Vocal Range: B3-E5. Grows from a cub to the lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar. Strong singer needed.
Vocal Range: G3-E5. Grows from a cub to a lioness before she confronts Scar. Nala has remained in the Pridelands and suffered with her family under the reign of Scar. Strong singer and mover needed.
Vocal Range: B3-B4. An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow, but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo.
Vocal Range: D4-G5. A kindhearted, sensitive warthog who enjoys his simple life of grubs and relaxation.
Vocal Range: No featured singing. The anxious yet loyal assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty.
Vocal Range: B3-E5. An adventurous, playful, energetic, naive, and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. After his father’s death, Simba struggles with shame and his destiny. Strong singer, dancers and performers are needed.
Vocal Range: B3-E5. A courageous lion and Young Simba's best friend. She is not afraid to speak her mind. Strong singer, dancer and performer needed.
Vocal Range: No featured singing. One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. She is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself; may double as ensemble
Vocal Range: No featured singing. A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy; may double as ensemble.
Vocal Range: No featured singing. The third member of Scar's trio of lackeys. He has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. Actor should be able to laugh unabashedly and communicate through physicality and facial expressions rather than words; may double as ensemble.
Vocal Range: No featured singing. A featured lioness, Mufasa's wife, and Simba's mother. Sarabi has a few key speaking lines for an actor who can deliver the care and command of a queen; will double as ensemble.
