Eileen's younger sister. Feisty and stubborn. Mia adores her older sister and is desperate to make Eileen proud by proving that she can be independent. Mia is in denial about their father's absence and still tries to see the best in him. Her optimism often clashes with Eileen's disillusionment about the world.
Mia's older sister. Practical and protective. Eileen has become Mia's primary caregiver following the death of their mother. With no support from their physically and emotionally absent father, Eileen is cracking under the pressure of caring for her little sister. Despite her love of Mia, she resents being burdened with such a heavy responsibility. She both admires and despises Mia's ability to find the good in every situation.
