"Roald Dahl's Matilda" The Musical seeking boys and girls in the 3rd-12th grades. See the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence...and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. However, the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, despises children and loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage, cleverness, and extraordinary imagination that will lead her classmates to revolt and take back their freedom! Additional info: Callbacks: Sat, May 20, 10 am-4 pm. All auditionees are required to prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song. Actors should bring their own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Singing from a music track or singing acapella is discouraged. Auditionees should choose a song that shows off vocal range, strong acting choices and that is ageappropriate. Memorization of your song is highly encouraged. If you do not have a song, one will be provided for you at auditions. Songs are available ahead of time, one month before auditions, at the Spartanburg Youth Theatre offices in the kiosk at the end of the hallway when you walk down the stairs to our area. You may use one of these songs, or you may use one of your own choosing. There will not be a dance call at auditions. Actors will not dance until callbacks (if called back). Bring your schedule to fill‐in all of your potential rehearsal conflicts on the audition form—conflicts may. NOT be added after casting! Rehearsals will occur Aug 14-Oct 11, 2023-- but not every day. One of the kids at school with Matilda. She is kind and bright and quickly decides that Matilda is her best friend; likeable and friendly.
One of the kids at school with Matilda. He is enthusiastic, sweet, and always in a bit of a panic. Nigel has a few solos and some great featured moments.
Matilda’s father. He is egotistical, rude, and not very bright, not to mention a liar. His harebrained schemes can be hilariously funny. Strong comedic actor needed.
Matilda’s mother. Like her husband, she dislikes Matilda and does not understand why her daughter loves to read. Mrs. Wormwood is selfish, obsessed with her own appearance, and believes everything she sees on TV. Strong comedic actress and mover needed.
Matilda’s brother. He is not very bright, though he is the apple of his father’s eye. Michael often speaks in hilarious deadpan one-liners. Strong comedic actor needed.

The quintessential terrifying tyrant. As headmistress, she runs her school like a dictator. Strong actor and singer who can embody Trunchbull’s larger-than-life villainy. While this role is sometimes cast as a male, in SYT’s production we will be casting a female in the role.
Mrs. Wormwood’s self-obsessed dance teacher. Hilarious comedic role. Actor should be a strong mover.
A customer swindled by Mr. Wormwood. Though he shows up looking for payback, Matilda has had quite enough of revenge, and Sergei lets the Wormwoods escape. Actor should be able to portray an intimidating presence.
