About the project: "In the Summers" is a documentary-style exploration of childhood, queerness, Latine culture, sisterhood, addiction, and trauma. Latine sisters, Violeta and Eva, visit their loving but reckless father Vicente every summer. He creates a world of wonder but under the fun facade, he battles addiction which gradually erodes the magic, culminating in a devastating car accident. Vicente tries to make up for the past but wounds aren’t easily healed. This film is made up over 5 summers over the course of 18 years. Stars: Rene Perez Joglar (aka Residente). After her parents' divorce, Violeta and her little sister Eva have to travel to visit their father in Las Cruces every summer. Violeta blames her father for the divorce, and this creates tension between them. She is fiercely protective of her sister and can sense that her father doesn't always take care of them the way they should. LEAD Actors submitted for this role should be comfortable playing a scene in a pool. Will play 7 y.o. in Summer 1 and 10 y.o. in Summer 2.
Will play 5 y.o. in Summer 1 and 8 y.o. in Summer 2. Bubbly, buoyant. Her family has mostly protected her from the perils of divorce and a broken family. She looks up to her sister and ADORES her father. Happy, easygoing, light. LEAD Actors submitted for this role should be comfortable playing a scene in a pool.
Play 12 y.o in Summer 3 and 16 y.o. in summer 4. Eva is the buoyant, bright younger sister to Violeta. Generally easygoing and a happy younger sister-she feels utterly protected by Violeta even in the moments when it feels like her dad isn't taking care of them the way he should. After a devastating car accident in Summer 3, Eva returns alone in Summer 4. It is during this summer she really descends into her father's dark world of apathy and drugs. With hair in pigtails and big overalls, Natalia is the sweet, unassuming, half-sister of Eva and Violeta. Adorably shy but happy to see her big sisters, she has been looking forward to their visit for a while!!
(she/her, to play 14 y.o., Latinx, identifies as Queer). Middle Violeta appears in the 3rd summer at 14 y.o. The protector of her little sister Eva, she is old enough to really grasp how dangerous her father's behavior is. If Eva is the 'pretty' sister, Violeta is the 'smart' one, and her father has no problem letting her know that. LEAD.
(she/her, 16 y.o., Queer). SEEKING MINORS for this role. Born and raised in Las Cruces, her family has been there for generations, Camila is being tutored by Vicente. She meets Violeta and an attraction develops between them. She’s sweet and kind hearted and comfortable in herself. Actively seeking actors who identify as Latinx, AfroLatinx and/or Native/indigenous (open to any but Apache, Acoma Pueblo, Diné tribes in particular).
