"Bye Bye Birdie" Show Seeks Teenagers

About the project: Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley-esque rock star, is the biggest name to top the charts in 1950s America. Women love him, men want to be him, and teenage girls around the country scream with glee at the mere mention of his name. But when the United States Army drafts Birdie, his manager, Albert Peterson, sees his own salary flying out the window (much to the delight of his longtime partner, Rose Alvarez, who can’t wait for Albert to ditch the music biz and do something respectable with his life). Desperate for a publicity stunt big enough to help them survive Birdie’s departure, Albert and Rose hatch a plan: send Conrad to a small, All-American town to plant a goodbye kiss on one lucky fan and publicize it on national television for the entire country to see. Their selection of superfan Kim Macafee sends the wholesome enclave of Sweet Apple, Ohio into chaos. Kim’s boyfriend, Hugo, can’t take the humiliation of his girlfriend’s televised kiss. Rose can’t take another minute of Albert’s distracted ways. And Sweet Apple can’t take its teens’ riotous rebellion, inspired by the arrival of bad-boy Birdie. Will Sweet Apple ever be the same? Additional info: For auditions, please prepare 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a musical theatre piece that best showcases your vocal ability and fits the style of the show. Please DO NOT use material from Bye Bye Birdie. Sides will be provided at auditions for cold reads. For callbacks, additional scenes will be provided along with several songs from the show. These should be reviewed and prepared for callbacks. Callbacks 4/8. 6/13-7/30 – Practice at TBD every Tues and Wed evening from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM except for the week of 7/4 and then Wed (7/5) and Fri (7/7). Sunday Practices – 6/18 & 7/9 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. 7/23 Tech – 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. 7/25, 26, & 27 Dress Rehearsals – 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. 4 Shows 7/28, 29, & 30 at TBD. If interested, please apply.
