Casting Kids & Teens for "Matilda the Musical"

About the project: Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. Meanwhile the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and loves thinking up new punishments for children who don’t conform. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination. Additional info: Callbacks will be March 25, 10:30 am – 3 pm, by appointment only. Rehearsals begin with a cast meeting Sunday, April 30, and will be held Sundays 6-9 pm and Monday through Thursday, 7-10 pm. Preview at 7 pm on Thursday, June 22. Evening Performances: June 23, 24, 30, and July 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 8 pm. Possible additional Thursday performance at 7 pm on June 29. Matinee Performances: June 25, July 2, and July 9. ROLE SIZE - Lead. DANCING - Mover. VOICE - Mezzo-Soprano (A3-D5). An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years with a strong sense of justice. Enigmatic, serious, intense. Willing to break rules for the greater good.
ROLE SIZE – Minor. DANCING - Mover. VOICE – Spoken. Matilda’s older brother, not very bright but his parents’ favorite. Needs good deadpan comedy and the ability to create a character with little motion and few words during a lot of stage time.
ROLE SIZE - Supporting. DANCING – Mover, Dancer. VOICE - Countertenor, Tenor (C4-E5) Matilda's classmate, strong comic actor. A large boy, must “eat” a large prop cake on stage, likely including real icing (allergy alert). Leads the victory celebration.
ROLE SIZE - Supporting. DANCING - Dancer. VOICE - Mezzo-Soprano (C4- F5) Matilda’s classmate and loud & kooky best friend. She has a big personality, likes to have fun, and is a bit naughty.
ROLE SIZE - Minor. DANCING - Dancer. VOICE – Mezzo-Soprano (C4-E5) Matilda's classmate, a small girl with pigtails. She gets thrown across the playground by her pigtails by Miss Trunchbull. Some solo lines.
ROLE SIZE - Minor. DANCING - Dancer. VOICE – Tenor (C4-E5) Matilda’s classmate, one of Matilda’s closer friends at school. Gets hidden from Trunchbull under coats and later starts the rebellion. Some solo lines.
