"Mas alla de mi Rio" Play Needs Boys

About the project: Struggling with a recent war and low on morale, El Eden, a ranchito in Northern Mexico, finds itself with trouble a-brewin'. When an old friend of Homero’s rides wounded into town, he and his pard, Chuy (along with Vaqueros, Pancho, and Juanito), do what they can to help him back on his feet. Daniel, a now-former Texas Ranger, is grateful at first, but holds disdain in his heart towards Chuy for being a homosexual. Insults and slurs are hurled at him, forcing Chuy to beg Homero to kick the Ranger out of their home. He listens and appeases, but Daniel's hate knows no bounds, and he believes someone must pay the price for their sin. Daniel commits a far greater sin by leaving Homero with no choice but to kill the man he once called “brother.” This story represents a part of Texas history that is often overlooked, misrepresented, and falsified. The Mexico-Texas border, rich with history, is often painted as a place full of criminals and “Bad hombres,” and, because of that, the stories we get are often about Cartels and Sicarios, when what truly represents the Border is the Vaquero. Additional info: Seeking Latino actors who are fluent in Spanish for a staged reading of "Más allá de mi Río", a new play by a local playwright in San Marcos, TX. Rehearsals: Begin late September, twice a week virtually, and will move to in-person in early November.
