About the project: "With the Grain" follows Milo, a high school kid who got suspended for a week after skateboarding into his principal's window. Rejecting his family and the privilege that comes with it, he values his own happiness, carving a new, unbeaten path and finding guidance in the community around him. Alfie, an old retired skater who hopes to lead the locals from making the same mistakes. Frankie, a mutual voice for Milo, who shares at the local skatepark, isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions. And Bennet, Milo’s emotionally void brother, who is the golden child every parent dreams their kid will grow up to be. This is a story built on the backs of male emotional vulnerability, authority figures taking over decisions, claiming it serves a higher social harmony, and the isolation that comes when you stray off the beaten path as you end your teenage years.
