Young talent needed for “Merrily We Roll Along” production. Additional details are listed below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: The play, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, tells the story of fictional composer Franklin Shepard, who has achieved tremendous professional success at great personal cost. The action unfolds in reverse, leading toward the story’s origin, when Frank and his friends are young and full of hope. The score includes some of Sondheim’s most memorable hits, such as “Old Friends,” “Our Time,” “Not a Day Goes By,” and the show-stopping “Franklin Shepard, Inc.” “Merrily” features a memorable supporting cast, with characters such as Charley Kringas, a role that has attracted numerous stars, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Raul Esparza, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Daniel Radcliffe. Additional info: Please note: a production fee applies. Actors may also be required to provide their own base costumes, often drawing from their own wardrobes. Additionally, parents of participating children ages 17 and under are asked to volunteer in one or more ways, such as taking turns supervising during rehearsals and performances and helping with sets and costume design. Auditions are open to anyone in grade 5 and up. There are six adult leads, one child lead, numerous featured singing and speaking roles, and ensemble opportunities. The film version, available on Netflix, is rated PG-13; the stage production is recommended for audiences at least 10 years old. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 19-22. Auditions will be held by appointment in groups. For children in grades 5-8, initial auditions will include singing. Adults and high schoolers will be asked to sing and read a short monologue. Audition materials will be provided upon sign-up. Finalists for lead and featured roles will be invited to callbacks (Sept. 8 and 10), which may involve additional singing, reading from the script, and dancing. When applying, please use the Subject Line: "Merrily Auditions: (Name)." If registering a participant in grades 5-12, include the child’s grade level. If registering multiple people, send one e-mail per registrant rather than one per family.
