About the project: Under the Same Prayer follows Leila, a young woman haunted by the family she grew up in: a toxic mother, a deeply religious stepfather, and her brother Luke. As the wounds of her past begin to resurface, Leila tries to hide from her complicated relationship between faith, family, and a truth she tries to bury. A story about faith, family, guilt, and the truths we spend years trying to bury. A woman haunted by her past and shaped by the deeply religious family she grew up in. As a child, she became increasingly devoted to her faith, seeking comfort and certainty within it. Over time, however, that devotion becomes consuming, blurring the line between faith, guilt, and obsession. As an adult, Leila is forced to confront the lasting effects of her upbringing and the memories she has spent years trying to escape.
A bright, sensitive girl growing up in a deeply religious and complicated household. Leila is eager to please her family and strongly believes in the rules and teachings she was raised with. She looks up to the adults around her and is still too young to fully grasp the contradictions and tensions in her home. Innocent and observant, she begins to internalize the fear, guilt, and expectations placed on her, laying the foundation for the woman she will eventually become.
Lucy and Zephyr's son. Growing up under the same religious and controlling environment as Leila, Luke still doesn't fully understand his complicated relationship with his family, faith, and the abuse he has witnessed. His relationship with Leila is complicated by years of shared history, guilt, and things left unsaid. The actor should be able to portray vulnerability beneath a restrained exterior and communicate emotional conflict without relying on exposition.
