About the project: Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus is a two-act play written by Andrew Fenady in 1998. It is based on his 1991 made-for-television Christmas family drama film. The film is based on the story behind the widely reprinted 1897 editorial by Francis Pharcellus Church, written in response to a letter by eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon asking whether Santa Claus was real. It starred Charles Bronson, Katharine Isabelle, Richard Thomas, and Ed Asner and was produced by Fenady. It premiered on ABC on December 1, 1991. Inspired by that simple, poignant letter written over 100 years ago by 8-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon to the editor of the New York Sun—and by the timeless editorial response printed on the front page of the Sun. Virginia wondered and wrote: "Dear Editor, I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says if you see it in the Sun, it's so. Please tell me the truth. Is there a Santa Claus?" Ed Mitchell, the Sun's editor, gives the assignment of answering Virginia's letter to Frank Church, who, until his wife and baby died last Christmas Eve, was the Sun's best and most dependable reporter. Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus is a play for young and old, magically reaffirming life's highest beauty and joy—"the eternal light with which childhood fills the world." The form will also be available at auditions. Auditions will consist of script readings and are included with this audition notice. Auditioners under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Tech Week: Sunday-Thursday, November 15-19, 2026 Performances: November 20,21,28,29 and December 4,5,6, 2026 (Fri/Sat @ 7pm - Sun @ 2pm) Rehearsals are scheduled for 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays beginning on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026. They may run later in the week the show opens. Some Tuesdays may be added in October/November if needed. A full rehearsal schedule will be provided at auditions for your convenience.
