About the project: Esther King is a brilliant psychology graduate who has not left her childhood home in three and a half years following her mother’s psychiatric decline. With only 14 days before she may be recommended for inpatient commitment, Esther enters an experimental residential treatment program led by Barack Washington, a successful but lonely therapist who temporarily lives inside his patients’ homes. "Esther" is an intimate, emotionally powerful story about grief, caregiving, isolation, mutual trauma recognition, and what it means to finally choose life again. This production explores human coping mechanisms, mental illness, psychiatric treatment, family trauma, and emotional isolation.
